Your Pregnancy Scan Experience
“I created ScanSanctuary to provide an elegant experience where you will feel relaxed whilst having your scans - you and baby are the guests of honour here…
As a Midwife Sonographer and mum, I understand how important this time in your life is, and how much your scans mean to you.
I look forward to welcoming you to my clinic. Your reassurance and wellbeing is my top priority.”

During Your Scan
All appointments are private and exclusive to you - we do our best to minimise other patients/families in the clinic at the same time. Each appointment is assigned 35 minutes during which time, you are the sole focus. There is no need to rush - you will have plenty of time to experience the scan and ask any questions you may have.
If you are bringing a partner or family along, there will be seating provided, where one of your guests can be right next to you.
This is your time and we will use it for you.
The Scan Procedure
You will lie down on the bed prepared and we will reveal your stomach.
A lubricating gel is put on your skin to allow the probe to move smoothly. This also ensures there's continuous contact between the probe and the skin. A small handheld probe is placed on your skin and moved over your stomach. You shouldn't feel anything other than the sensor and gel on your skin.
As we move across your stomach we will start to see the image on the screen and your Midwife Sonographer will explain what we are looking at.
Ultrasound Scans
An ultrasound scan is a procedure that uses high-frequency sound waves to create an image of part of the inside of the body. A small device called an ultrasound probe is used, which gives off high-frequency sound waves. You can't hear these sound waves, but when they bounce off different parts of the body, they create "echoes" that are picked up by the probe and turned into a moving image. This image is displayed on a monitor while the scan is carried out.
Please note that ScanSanctuary provides a ‘non diagnostic’ service. As such; if we notice any problems with your pregnancy we have a procedure in place to refer you directly to Noble’s Hospital, Isle of Man. We do not specifically look for fetal abnormalities and will not be held responsible should an anomaly be missed.
Gender Reveal
If you don’t want to know the gender of your baby, please tell your Midwife Sonographer before they start the scan. If you are planning a ‘gender reveal’, the gender can be placed in a sealed envelope, which you can share with others without knowing yourself - maybe for a gender reveal cake or other lovely party surprise!
If you would like to find out your baby’s gender in the room then your Midwife Sonographer will point to the baby’s anatomy and explain what we are looking at!
