How To Relieve Dog-Nose

DogNose.jpg

This not only made us giggle (dog nose!) but contains some good advice.

“'Dog-nose' or a heightened sense of smell, can be a major factor in triggering nausea and sickness in pregnancy.

You may find that many perfectly acceptable scents that you enjoyed pre-pregnancy, now send you running for the bathroom! Try to avoid the obvious ones, like cooking smells, and for those you cannot avoid (the air, other people, your own hands!) try using anything you can to mask the odour. Hand cream, soaps, lip balms can be milder than body sprays or perfumes (and less expensive to replace when you inevitably go off them in a few days time.)

  • Ask family and friends to avoid creating your trigger smells.

  • Put deodorant and perfume on outside if you can't stand them.

  • Minimise enduring cooking smells by asking someone else to cook.

  • If you can tolerate scented candles, these can be one way to mask kitchen odours.

  • Carry a hanky with a couple of drops of Karvol or Vicks, in your pocket, to use if you come across any upsetting smells.

  • Most importantly, ask for help!

Join the Pregnancy Sickness Support forum or call the helpline for a peer supporter to help you cope with all aspects of pregnancy sickness.”
